LinearMouse

Quick post about this macOS utility called LinearMouse I just discovered. It provides per-mouse configurations and lets me set the scroll direction on the trackpad separately than the scroll direction on the mouse. I'm not sure if I'm a special use-case, but this is the way I like it to be, and for some reason macOS does not let you do this.

The frustrating thing is that macOS actually provides separate scroll direction controls for the mouse and the trackpad. But changing one will automatically change the other to match. You can't have them set differently.

There are a number of other third party mouse drivers for macOS, but I didn't want anything with too many features. And I didn't want to pay for something that should be built into the OS. So LinearMouse is perfect.

And why not just use the Logitech software which is designed to work with my mouse? Well this software has annoyed me for a long time - it offers a bunch of cloud-connected features that I didn't want; for example: copy/paste via the cloud - who wants their clipboard synced with the cloud??? And their latest thing was to add ChatGPT to the mouse software, which created a bunch of unwanted folders and other crap on my computer. So I was glad to get rid of it, and over time I will get rid of my Logitech products and find something better.
